New Adult Soccer League in Harlingen

Soccer enthusiasts in Harlingen have a new playing opportunity with the launch of the Harlingen Adult Soccer League (HASL) beginning this Spring. The HASL will consist of 14 to 16 coed teams competing in a 9v9 division with games held every Sunday at 5 pm at Vestal Park. Six males and three females will be on the field at all times. Vestal Park, located at 501 Lafayette Avenue near Zavala Elementary, offers spacious playing fields with great lighting, bleachers, and brand-new soccer goalposts. HASL is a nonprofit organization operating as part of HC Athletics and offering an opportunity for co-ed teams for players ranging from 15 years of age and older to compete in their league.  HASL President, Misael Cacique, advised that their league is TSSAS certified under USA Soccer and all coaches are National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Certified for Sport ®  or “com sports” certified, bringing an elite level of soccer to Harlingen. HASL began operations with the purpose of providing the community soccer options that could lead to opportunities because of their soccer affiliations. For example, high school players and coaches may be able to utilize their time and experience at HASL to attain college soccer scholarships or to enhance their soccer playing/coaching resumes. As per President Cacique, the HASL purpose is simple: offer a soccer league that is open and equal to all. All inclusive. Where teams, players, and spectators can enjoy the game in a family-friendly environment and provide entertainment the whole family can enjoy. As a nonprofit organization, HASL utilizes sponsor contributions to support league operations, such as a concession stand, and to further the development of the league. HASL also plans to introduce additional divisions in the future as they grow, including separate men’s and women’s divisions.
