Harlingen Margarita Fest Round 2

(This article was written by Steven Hughes and appeared in the June 2024 issue of Explore Harlingen Magazine .) Rio Grande Valley businesses, big and small, can find networking and clientele opportunities through the power of the Greater Chamber of Harlingen, hosting a spectrum of events year-round. “We’re here to promote, support, and advocate for all businesses,” Director of Membership & Retention Liz Davila said via Google Meet. “It’s important to get these businesses together so they can meet each other so we can grow.” The Chamber, incorporating Primera, Combes, Santa Rosa, Los Indios, Rio Hondo, and Palm Valley, has an upcoming event called the Margarita Fest on July 27, 2024 (rescheduled from June 22, 2024) — after a short pause from its first event in 2022. Margarita Fest, a chance for the public to meet vendors and participate in a margarita-tasting competition, features local bars’ efforts to make the best margarita in Harlingen via public opinion during the event. Davila said there’s a cash prize of $1,000 for first place. Ramses Tacos & Tequilas won top honors in 2022 for their tasty and spicy pineapple jalapeño margarita. Additional prizes will be awarded this year for Best Drink Presentation ($500 cash prize) and Best Tent Decoration ($250 cash prize). Besides the margarita contest, the public can shop numerous and various vendors at the event. “We had a lot of sales,” Candi Casas, owner of 4Ever Unique Creations in Harlingen, said when asked how her custom products fared in 2022. “We started at noon to set up, and the people and other vendors were coming to our tent to see what we had. They were also purchasing.” Director of Social Media & Marketing for the Chamber Alondra Sanchez noted tickets cost from $35 to $50 to taste test, but it is free to enter. Margarita Fest will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. at 1217 Fair Park Blvd. This year’s festival will feature live performances from headliner Ache de Barrio and opening act 4TRIX & CREW. Sanchez noted there will be activities for children to enjoy, such as the Jurassic RGV dinosaur show. “The Chamber; we’re a team of five,” Sanchez said via Google Meet. “We appreciate the volunteer work we have, especially our ambassadors, who attend our events to show their support.” Chamber ambassadors will volunteer their time to help with the event’s successful execution.
