About Me

My name is Lisa Campos, daughter of the late Roberto Campos and Gaudencia Campos. My older siblings are retired newscaster Gloria Campos; retired marketing and sales professional Debbie Campos; and retired firefighter Robert Campos Jr.

I was born and raised in Harlingen. After I graduated from Harlingen High School in 1990, I moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas at Austin. While at UT, I played saxophone in the Basketball Band and was a news anchor for the student radio station. I achieved a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication in 1994. After college, I moved around Texas a bit, living in Plano and Houston, but lived most of my adult life in Austin (20+ years).

My daughter was born in May 2013 in Austin. Just a few months later, I moved back to Harlingen so my parents, who were aging and not able to travel, could get to know their only granddaughter. Both my parents are in heaven now, but I know I made the right decision to come back to Harlingen.

When I first moved back to Harlingen, it was hard to find the information I was looking for about my hometown online. I decided to create a site that could be useful for locals and visitors alike. I created Explore Harlingen Blog on Facebook on October 20, 2013. I grew tired of people saying, "There's nothing to do in Harlingen." I want to keep proving them wrong every day.

On March 1, 2022, reporter Trey Serna did a wonderful feature on Explore Harlingen for KRGV's new segment, "Made in the 956," which summarizes my purpose perfectly. View here

My daughter (now 10 years old) and I live in Harlingen with our two pets: Panda, a 3-year-old female black and white cat and Cindy Clawford, a newly adopted kitten. For the past 10+ years, I have worked full-time remotely as a proposal manager for a global IT staffing and services company.
