My name is Lisa Campos, daughter of the late Roberto Campos and Gaudencia Campos. My older siblings are retired newscaster Gloria Campos; retired marketing and sales professional Debbie Campos; and retired firefighter Robert Campos Jr. I was born and raised in Harlingen. After I graduated from Harlingen High School in 1990, I moved to Austin to enroll at the University of Texas at Austin. While at UT, I played saxophone in the Basketball Band and was a news anchor for the student radio station. I achieved a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication in 1994. After college, I moved around Texas a bit, living in Plano and Houston, but lived most of my adult life in Austin (20+ years).
My daughter was born in May 2013 in Austin. By October 2013, I had moved back to Harlingen so that she could get to know my parents - they were aging and not able to travel, so I brought their only granddaughter to them. Both my parents are in heaven now, but I am glad my daughter got to know them for a few years before they passed on.
When I first moved back, it was hard to find the information I was looking for about my hometown online. So I decided to create a site that could be useful for locals and visitors alike. I created Explore Harlingen Blog on Facebook on October 20, 2013. I grew tired of people saying, "There's nothing to do in Harlingen." I want to keep proving them wrong every day.
On March 1, 2022, Trey Serna did a wonderful feature on KRGV's new segment "Made in the 956," which summarizes my purpose perfectly. View here
My daughter and I have two pets: Natedogg, an 11-year-old male Shepherd mix dog and Panda, a 2-year-old black and white female cat. Since 2012, I have worked full-time from home as a proposal manager for a global IT staffing and services company.
